A classically trained vocalist and pianist, Laura Berman has been writing
and performing her original material since 1995. Her powerfully rich and
soulful voice has attracted the attention of Manhattan club owners and
other industry professionals such as associates of BMI, owners of independent
record labels and well-respected studio engineers and session musicians
Laura orchestrates her songs in fashions similar to Joni Mitchell, Sting
and Carole King, but her voice resonates with the influence of singers
like Anita Baker, Luther Vandross and Jeffrey Gaines. This welding of
styles soothes the souls of listeners and keeps their ears and hearts
open to her honest and poetic lyrics.
By distributing copies of her live performances, Laura has seen a dramatic
increase of fan base throughout the country. She is currently working
with a group of talented musicians who lend a new dimension to her songs.
Laura regularly plays in and around the New York City area. Performances
at local colleges as well as Songwriter Circles along the East Coast are
anticipated throughout 1999 as Laura continues to expand her performance
territory and fan base.
In February 1998, she was selected to participate in a Make-a-Wish Foundation
benefit at Eddie's Attic in Decatur, Georgia. Other participants included
Edwin McCain, Shawn Mullins, John McVey, Gibb Droll and Cosy Sheridan.
Laura also serves as back-up vocalist on many occasions, such as performing
with Grammy award winner Enya on the David Letterman and Rosie O'Donnell
shows, and with the critically acclaimed Stickman Jones at New York's
Bottom Line. She is looking forward to lending her voice to many more
projects in the future.
Laura's self-produced CD is scheduled for release and distribution in
late 1999. She can be reached via email at singerchck@aol.com.
